Dead, Insane, or in Jail: A CEDU Memoir & Dead, Insane, or in Jail: Overwritten
The author Zack Bonnie goes into deep detail of what it is like going through a "Troubled Teen Program" from the perspective of a teenager. The abuse and coercion techniques used on him and many other teens at the Rocky Mountain Academy is brought to light through the words of the author, going into great detail of brainwashing and cult like behavior. Zack Bonnie drags the reader in, not only with the truth of these types of facilities, but also his humor and 'straight to the point' writing style.
Thank you Zack Bonnie for giving us an opportunity to be able to look through your eyes. We at STS would also like to thank you for giving us an opportunity to review your publications!

Totalistic Teen Treatment
This original research analyzes reports about the experiences and impacts of teen programs. In the united States an array of residential treatment centers, therapeutic boarding schools, wilderness/outdoor programs, and intensive outpatient programs "provide" psychological and behavioral programming to "troubled" youth. Although federal investigations and news reports provide anecdotal evidence suggesting some program types may be problematic, few studies have explored the relationship between program design and quality of life within totalistic settings, and very little is known about the way such programs impact adult development.

Institutionalized Persuasion
Institutionalized Persuasion goes into amazing detail of how coercion (brainwashing) began and how it made its way into the Troubled Teen Industry. Not only does it go into the history of coercion, but it also shows the long term damage that it can create for the brain. Author, Marcus Chatfield, gives readers a change to look into his background when he was place in Straight Inc. A notorious umbrella corporation of abusive boarding facilities for troubled youth. Safe Teen Schools highly recommends Institutionalized Persuasion, for the simple fact that it shows just how horrible the affects of brainwashing are on the youth in these types of boarding facilities. Safe Teen Schools would also like to thank the author for allowing us to do an in depth review and read of his book! Thank you Marcus Chatfield for not only allowing us to review the book, but for all that you do to save children from abuse!

The White House Boys: An American Tragedy
The White House Boys: An American Tragedy  is the true story of the horrors recalled by Roger Dean Kiser, one of the boys incarcerated at the Dozier School in the late fifties for the crime of being a confused, unwanted, and wayward child. In a style reminiscent of the works of Mark Twain, Kiser recollects the horrifying verbal, sexual, and physical abuse he and other innocent young boys endured at the hands of their "caretakers". Questions remain unanswered and theories abound, but Roger and other 'White House Boys' are determined to learn the truth and see justice served not only for themselves, but the boys who never made it back.

Help at Any Cost: How the Troubled-Teen Industry Cons Parents and Hurts Kids
Maia Szalavitz's Help at Any Cost  is the first in-depth investigation of this industry and its practices, starting with its roots in the cultlike sixties rehabilitation program Synanon and Large Group Awareness Training organizations in the seventies; continuing with Straight, Inc., which received Nancy Reagan's seal of approval in the eighties; and culminating with a look at the World Wide Association of Specialty Programs- the leading force in the industry today- which has begun setting up shop in foreign countries to avoid regulation. Szalavitz uncovers disturbing findings about these programs' methods, including allegations of verbal and physical abuse, and presents us with moving, often horrifying, first-person accounts of kids who made it through, as well as stories of those who didn't survive.
